Ella's special plate

When we lived in Toledo, Ella was blessed to find a really special friend who happened to be her nursery leader and then her Sunbeam teacher at church. I think Ella and Denise are kindred spirits. They just really have a special relationship.
A couple of weeks before we left Toledo, Denise asked if she could take Ella out on a Saturday to have some fun together. We agreed and sent them off. They spent some time taking pictures at the local botanical gardens and had lunch together. They also went to a pottery painting place and painted a plate so Ella would have something to remember their day. Denise mailed us the plate a couple of weeks after we arrived in our new house. Ella has used that plate EVERY night since then-about 6 months. On Tuesday night she was obediently clearing her plate from the table and as she turned around she hit the plate on the chair knocking it out of her hands and on to the floor. It did not survive the fall. Ella was devastated and sobbed for quite a while. It was really, really sad (Marc and I were so sad about it that we didn't really even care about the damage this heavy pottery did to our floor!) Ella asked if she could take a picture of it so she could remember what it looked like. So we put the bigger pieces together and she took a picture. Denise, I don't know how much you read our blog, but any chance you would want to drive a few hours south and paint another plate with Ella? We know a place.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Marc and I had babysitters and everything for a fun evening out for Valentine's Day. As luck would have it, Mary is sick and threw up all over herself and me about 30 minutes before Marc got home. Needless to say, I was in no mood to go out, so we bailed on the sitter and stayed in playing RockBand with the kids.

It has been our tradition to eat heart shaped food on Valentine's day! A couple of times I managed to do it for every meal. This year it was just heart shaped pizza for dinner! Yummy. When we were in school and residency, I asked Marc not to buy me flowers. It seemed like such a waste when there were so many things we couldn't afford to spend money on something that would die in a few days! So this year, he was 'cleared' to spend money on flowers (as long as he bought them at Costco...a girl still wants to feel like she got good bang for her buck) and I think he did a lovely job!
Happy Valentine's Day to all of you! Hope it was filled with lots of love!

Finally.....

Just wanted to share with you all that Mary finally has enough hair to hold a teeny tiny clip. She has Ella beat. Ella was 15 months old before her hair would hold any sort of accessory. Mary needed to do something cute, though to redeem herself from the past two nights of poor sleeping. If I didn't know better I would think she were a newborn!

Another cousin Charlie!

As if one cousin Charlie were not enough, this weekend we added another! Congratulations to my sister Melissa and her husband Derek on the birth of their first baby! Welcome to the world little man!

A momentous week

I just looked back to see when my last post was....October 23!

But we had a big week so I'm back, for today.

Mary turned 1!
And she decided that the pictures with the bear were no fun anymore so here is what I got....
She has heard that chubby thighs are no longer in style (once you are one and all) so she is thinking of trying the Wii Fit.
Happy Birthday to you, Mary!

On Friday, I took this picture of the odometer on our van. Since it is a Dodge and is 8 years old, we are just waiting to start seeing the trail of parts falling off as we drive. Its days are numbered anyway. Apparently a seven-passenger van doesn't accomodate 5 front-facing car seats.
