Job Hunt

For the past 6 months or so, Marc has been trying to find the right fit in an orthopaedic practice to join after he finishes his fellowship in the summer of 2008. He gets almost daily phone calls and multiple emails from recruiters. Recently, he got an email about an opportunity in Pueblo, Colorado and for some reason it caught his eye and he decided we should go look at it...I was not too excited for a number of reasons...

  1. It is really far from all of our family.
  2. It is a small town.
  3. Going to Colorado meant flying which I hate to do and haven't done in over five years!
  4. I have never left my kids for more than a couple of hours....this would mean 2 1/2 days away from them.

But I agreed to go if for nothing else to talk Marc out of it! They do, after all, have 300 days of sunshine every year (I think Ohio has less than 100). As luck would have it, the one full day we were there, it rained all day and the wind blew gusts of 60+ mph. It was the same storm that dumped inches of snow in Denver. We had fun. It is nice to be 'wined and dined'. We had some great food and met some really nice people. As for the job...we are not sure.

Marc with the Royal Gorge bridge in the background. This apparently is the highest suspension bridge in the world. We didn't have time to go walk across it...nor did we want to pay the $21 per person either.

Me standing on a rock by Lake Pueblo. The weather improved considerably on Wednesday. The mountains are really beautiful but I realized that I like green! There were not many green lawns like we have in Ohio!

I survived the flights...realized that it's not bad except I don't like taking off. My kids had a great time with grandma and I didn't have to change any diapers for 2 whole days. It was great to come home and have my baby Sarah crawl up on the bed and nestle in for a nice long squeeze!

New Years Resolutions

This year, as I have every year, I made a list of New Year's Resolutions. This year there were five. I am a very good goal setter, but I am not the best at following through and actually achieving the goals I set for myself. Well yesterday, I checked one of them off my list, and with the start of this family blog, I will check off a second.

About a month ago, my friend Aimee, asked if I thought Tanner would like to do a 1K fun run with her daughter Natalie. Natalie had done it last year but didn't want to do it alone this year. So I said sure. As I went to register Tanner for the race, I realized that it was also a 5K walk/run and on my resolution list was run a 5K. So, I signed myself up, too. So after having the stomach flu for a couple of weeks and then having strep throat and then struggling with allergies, I finally got back on the treadmill 5 days before the race. My goals yesterday were to run the whole thing and not be last.

This is the start of the race. They had the biggest group ever...around 700 people. It was at the zoo and for those of you who have been to our zoo, they put the pedestrian bridge (the one that goes up and over a four lane highway) at the very end of the race! Ugh. It was finally a beautiful day...a perfect day for a race.

We never did find Natalie at the start of the kids race but here they are after. I was so proud of Tanner and Ella. They ran that whole time. Tanner stopped a couple of times to wait for Ella but they did a great job!

Here we are, the racers.

Two of five resolutions done. Hopefully, this will be a fun place for our family and friends to keep up with us. I have loved checking Kate and Aimee's blogs. Thanks for inspiring me to start my own and for convincing me that even my meager computer skills were up to the challenge. Diana, hopefully you will start to see some of the pics from that digital camera you bought us so we would send you pictures!
